Is Childhood Obesity Child Abuse?

It is disturbing to me when I see an overweight child. But I have to say every time I see an obese child the parents are obese. So it is a dysfunction that's handed down to the next generation.

In America 85% of the population is overweight. 25% percent of that 85% are obese. Between 5-25 percent of children and teenagers in the United States are obese!

This is a true health crisis! Children are facing two enormous challenges today. Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes. A rising number of children are being diagnosed with ADD and ADHD.

Childhood obesity and sickness most likely results from a combination of nutritional ignorance within the family compound, psychological issues in which I believe are caused by our over processed, nutritional bankrupt food supply, and monetary status. Although I've seen obesity in children in homes with a six figure a year income.

We have major challenges facing us today. Our food supply, which is nutritionally bankrupt and genetically altered. And the lure of the fast food to our working mothers. Its easier to pick up some McDonald's in between Job 1 and Job 2 than it is to cook a healthy meal.

Obesity used to be a sign of wealth, today it is a sign of poverty.

But when a child is overweight, or worse yet obese, shouldn't a parent take action to make a change?

Is this the new form of Child Abuse? Born not out of intent but ignorance and laziness.
